Challenge: Improve Office Security on Putney Bridge Road
Solution: 6 Cameras recording on 9 channel Digital CCTV system Pascall+Watson are leading architects, with a strong reputation in the Transportation sector.
They have been involved with the design of facilities such as Heathrow T5, Dublin Terminal 2, Wembley + St Pancras Station. Following a small demonstration at their offices by walk-in activists Police recommended that CCTV would provide clear evidence to support legal action if another demonstration occurred, and provide reassurance to staff. Camera London helped Pascall+Watson design a system to meet their needs. A highly visible CCTV system, was recommended so that potential intruders would be aware that their actions would be recorded. It is well established that having images recorded deters most types of intruder. Visibility is achieved by bespoke signage and obvious cameras positioned on the exterior of the building on the busy Putney Bridge Road. The system provided operates in three ways. Firstly, cameras monitor activity outside the building so that Reception are aware of activity and can control who is given access to the building. Secondly, a camera records a clear picture of every person entering so that they can be identified later if needed. Finally, cameras record activity in the reception area, so that any incident is kept on file. The system encourages prevention of an incident, but should one occur, the people involved can be identified and prosecuted. As designers, Pascall+Watson were keen for a design which blended in with their office.External cameras are highly visible, meanwhile internal cameras and the screens which support Reception are discrete. The DVR unit is located in a secure cupboard. The images are available on a secure network, removing the need to access the DVR location in order to recover the recorded information. Multiple users have been set up on the system with different rights to ensure compliance with data protection laws.
